Experimental Physics Workshops (EP)

The experimental physics workshop series has a total of 18 well-designed experiments in different subdiscipline of physics. This series is great for students wishing to learn about experimental techniques which could help them succeed in research-based physics competitions.

Newton's Craddle swinging

(EP101) Introduction to Experimental Physics

Recommended Prerequisite: Calculus and High School Physics

In this workshop we will first provide lab safety training and discuss famous physics experiments. Then students will perform 2 experiments, analyze the results and learn how to write a lab report.

Digram of spring mass damper system

(EP201) Experiments in Classical Mechanics

Recommended Prerequisite: EP101

In this workshop students will perform 4 experiments in classical mechanics focusing on mechanical oscillators and damping. While doing so, students will be accustomed to the common techniques in mechanical system measurements.

(EP202) Experiments in Electricity and Magnetism

Recommended Prerequisite: EP101

In this workshop we will perform 4 experiments in E&M involving the measurement of fundamental constants and building simple circuits.

Light rays of different color

(EP203) Experiments in Thermal and Optics

Recommended Prerequisite: EP101

In this workshop we will perform 2 experiments in thermodynamics and 2 experiments in optics. Students will explore heat transfer and wave optics.

Water droplet

(EP204) Experiments in Fluid and Acoustics

Recommended Prerequisite: EP101

In this workshop we will perform 2 experiments in fluid dynamics and 2 experiments in acoustics. Students will become familiar with fluid measurements and the wave property of sound.
